Welcome to the new blog!

1 Apr

After some deliberation I decided that I wanted to move our blog over here to WordPress. The main reason is because WordPress allows you to reply to specific comments whereas in Blogger you need to reference the author you’re replying to, and it makes it confusing, at least to me.

I’m very new to WordPress and naive to it’s features. I still haven’t figured out how to add html badges (help!).

Let me know how this layout works for you. I spent way too much time picking and messing with a theme, not to mention pictures, fonts, etc. The downside to WordPress is that they really don’t let you customize the way Blogger does. And that header picture is so annoying! Why can’t it be just a little longer?

Anywho. If, after some time, I decide WordPress isn’t all it should be, we may go back to Blogger, but I don’t think that will happen.

I’ll try to make the transition smooth and double post for a bit until we’re all on the same page.

And if you have any hints or advice for cruising through WordPress, please let me know!

Welcome, from the Three Muskateers

We followed you here and the picture of the Three Musketeers is totally priceless. It looks like one of the three prefers to be somewhat removed.

oooh how convenient for me! now it’ll be easier to keep track of you… Welcome!

Wow, thank you for the list.. Maybe I will make one for Luna now. I want to teach her spin to right and spin to left.. as well as left and right shake but she is SO bratty about listening to the words of the command. I also want to teach her to jump through my arms, and she probably would do good on perch, may ask you more about that one. She is very agile and always does insane things off chairs/couches when she has been cooped up. Thanks for the motivation.

I pretty much agree with the tug thing, same with wrestle play. If a dog can turn it off on command and settle back down then I usually don’t have a problem with it. It’s not so much that she would challenge me over a bird, her drop it has always been very good.. or give rather. it’s more I don’t want to create a hard mouth by her kind of learning to bite hard on something. So far no problems though. I just let my husband do such things with her mostly, or other dogs, as he doesn’t handler her in those training situations anyway, and she listens to him just the same. That’s her roughhouse buddy, he can put up with it much better than I anyhow.

Thanks again for the list, I look forward to the video, I have gotten Luna to jump onto tables/lap/chair/boat/round bale when asked, so she would probably be good at it.

PS.. i agree about there not being enough customizability on WP… can’t say I can help a whole lot. Do you use any photo programs? It helps a lot when making headers etc, you need to know what the size is they require then things will fit better. You could always email me an image with the size requirements and i could whip it up quick for you and send back. You can contact me on my website with e-mail and we can go from there. Happy to help with what little I know.

I don’t know much about bird dogs, but I have chatted with people who clicker train their gun and bird dogs and they’ve all said that the dogs have an easy time separating “tug on tug toy with mom” and “keep a soft mouth on bird in field.” That said, as with everything, if you’re not comfortable doing something, don’t do it!

If she has a hard time responding to verbal cues it may be that she doesn’t actually know them as well as you think she might. Try to go back and re-add the cues and see if it helps at all. Also don’t add like 5 cues at once, it can be overwhelming for them.

Thanks for the offer to help with the picture. I struggled for far too long to get my current header up. I’ll give it a little bit to get old and then we’ll definitely contact you for help with the next!

I’ve been really happy with our move to WordPress! Once you get used to it, I think you’ll really like it. There are more things to get used to, but once you do, it’s really cool what you can do with it!

How do you follow a wordpress blog?

    • ettel April 2, 2011 at 5:17 pm #

      You’re on Blogger, right?

Go to your Dashboard. There you’ll see a box that says “Reading list” and underneath that, “Blogs I’m Following.”

Below that is a blue button that says “add.” Click it and enter the url.

If you’re doing it through Google Reader, then go to your Google Reader page and at the top left there’s a box you can enter the url into.

If you’re still having trouble, let me know!
